Abena Somiah is a Contemporary Asian Studies Major. Their research interests lie in the anthropology, history and sociology of Japan and South Korea. Abena loves researching anything to do with gender, diaspora, transnational ties and the intersections of tradition and modernity in both those sites. These days, however, they are particularly interested in the discourses around globalization, youth culture, multiculturalism and race in those countries.
Abena joined Re:Locations Journal because they believe that diverse voices and perspectives are incredibly necessary to have in academia, and they want to participate in amplifying these stories.
