Shehnoor Khurram is a PhD candidate at the Department of Political Science, at York University. Her writing has been published in the Huffington Post, Canadian Dimension, and Briarpatch Magazine. She is currently working on her doctoral dissertation, which examines how militant Islamist movements respond to neoliberal globalization and it’s corrosive impact on the politics, ecology, and social life of the Muslim world.
She is also a TA who is committed to public education. She has been on the frontlines fighting against Doug Ford’s austerity agenda through her organizing on campus, and with Climate Justice TO and the Fight for $15 and Fairness. Her solidarity unwaveringly stands with the most vulnerable, BIPoC folks, the working class, women, 2SLGBTQ+ community, and all of the intersections that arise.
Her love of writing and researching drove her to join the Re:Locations team in 2018 as an editor. Since that time, Shehnoor has also taken on the position of Director of Communications. Her latest role at Re:Locations is co-chair of the 2020 symposium, Resilience and Disaster: the Global South during COVID-19, alongside Laura Facciolo.
